I would love to be able to physically remove a hard drive from a ps3 and plug it directly to a SATA plug in a PC. I could backup, transfer etc files at a much higher rate than network transfer or even USB. the problem I am running into is that the MBR seems to be set to either a PC format of a PS3 format. and then when I plug the HDD into a PC it says "unallocated.... desire to format?" and when I plug information technology into a PS3 information technology starts up and says "drive not recognized... desire to reformat?"

    Is there anyhow around this?

  2. Yes if you accept that bulletin from windows it basically overwrites part of the HDD that has data on information technology for the PS3. Side by side time just ignore the message and it wont do it, I accidentally did that once past clicking on the incorrect notification lol.

As for backing yous your information, Aldo's PS3 Tool'southward collection has a PS3 HDD Reading Utility simply is read merely and yous need your EID_root_key ( ERK )to be able to do it only you lot copy your data of your PS3 HDD and safely store it on our PC or transfer it to another HDD in case you desire to re-create it back either via and External HDD or by FTP.

This sounds like a solution for me, merely I am new to this and don't know what EID ERK is where tin can I find Aldo'due south tools? And do I install Aldo's tools on a PC or in the PS3?
  4. Aldo's PS3 Tools are for PC, they contain a lot of good tools. You can discover these tool'southward in the PS3 Resource'due south section of this site.

The EID_root_key<Encrypted Individual Data, EID. (ERK for curt) has to be dumped form the PS3, I know of two ways to do this, you can use REBUG Toolbox to do this if on REBUG CFW ( I am not sure if this function still works on other CFW) or use IDPSet to dump it equally well.

  5. iirc, rebug toolbox will not dump the eid central if on another firmware. I actually tested this on ferrox. the selection is nonexistent.
  6. I have never tried the option'south on other CFW's, i know some options will work merely non others. Information technology will not work about likely as they practise not have the right patch in the right place.

Practiced to know this thank you for the info.

Practice you which options still work on other CFW'south?

  7. I'k not certain what's available. it could exist whatever'due south usable on a normal cex firmware.

I believe you can dump the eid key with idpset. afaik, it's not firmware dependent.

Well, You tin. Dump ERK, then generate keys from it (I accept fabricated keygen for all retail models). Apply Linux to read and write. Well, the take hold of is... You need UFS kernel module with *write* privileges (default support is but for read). I'chiliad trying on doing this on Linux Mint only they have something f*d in the scripts and I accept to low cognition to handle this. And even if You lot'll end with kernel which can write to UFS2, it still in experimental stage. UFS2 is fully and properly supported but on BSD family systems but I'm not certain if there are such flexible tools like on Linux to convert on the fly LE to Be and to support decryption/encryption per block on the fly. I have created tutorial in my native linguistic communication and this last step still keep me from finishing it and translating information technology to English.Trouble is that PS3 using custom partition tabular array and encrypting all partitions (user sectionalization is on UFS2 instead to i.e FAT32 or NTFS which Your Windows understand). ;pOh my God, Yous made for yourself big headache now. ;p Windows did overwrite partition tabular array so You need create sector by sector copy of this HDD, format it on PS3, dump first 512KiB, inject information technology to before created disk image, and so write this paradigm back on this HDD. Otherwise You could consider lost ALL of the data on this HDD. Good luck.

I didn't reformat when I installed it into windows. I couldn't even find the drive when I did. I had to find it by going into deejay direction via the command panel then found an unallocated drive. I didn't want to rewrite the MBR considering I figured all my games would have been lost.

I found Aldo's tools.... my god.... at that place is a million Aldo's tools. I found one called Aldo'south file sync 1.7. I promise this is where I demand to showtime. if anyone has any clarification if this is the correct thing I am looking for? or a basic layout of what this does. I would be very grateful.

    example
#1 take HDD out of ps3
#two plug it into a sata cablevision on a PC or a USB external adapter.
#3 copy everything to an internal bulldoze with space.

    or do I....

#i special format a blank drive on a PC then plug that drive into the USB port of the ps3 and start copying?

or is it some combination of these steps? I don't have access to Linux or any avant-garde programming knowledge then perhaps I volition be stuck doing this over an FTP but I sure hope not, terminal time I did it took twoscore hours and I am working with fatty PS3 with heating problems. SATA to SATA within a PC I can transfer 2TB in like x mins.

my ultimate goal is to upgrade from a 1.5TB to a 1.75Tb internal HDD so put the 1.5TB into a second PS3. No matter which way I cut it, this is a lot of transferring and formatting.

  10. On the tools principal menu become to conversion tools so PS3 HDD GUI, this is the PS3 HDD reader, but yous demand the EID_root_key
  11. Yous could do information technology either fashion, but it will be quicker to do it on PC with EID cardinal, from sata to sata, rather than on PS3 over USB ii.0. When it comes to restoring the backup you will need to do it via FTP or over USB on the console, as we have no write access on PC.TBH I would not bother doing that upgrade if I was you, its only extra 200GB approx, and console will have 10% of that. Too if yous e'er need to practise a file arrangement check which tin be required after a hard crash, so it will force a format if its over ane.5TB, which tin exist a lot of hassle.

I followed the tutorial and used the RBG toolbox to dump the file and now I have a file on my PC desktop that is called "root_key_475.sefl"

I have another Aldos toolbox on my PC and I managed to get "PS3 HDD GUI v1.3" opened and it says EID key not found when I open this program

#1 do I need to plug the PS3 HDD into the computer at present?
#ii is the .cocky file the correct EID key I am looking for?
#three how to I get these 2 things to piece of work together?
#4 can my fill-in HDD be NTFS?

i'm doing this backup/HDD swap for the primary reason that my Retroarch program crashed and died and I want everything off so I can start once more in hopes that it volition come back alive. I use this PS3 primarily for RA. http://world wide web.psx-place.com/threads/retroarch-crashing-when-scanning-roms.22729/ I haven't been able to go any answers from this forum or from Liberto. so I am hoping that if I bandy out HDD exercise a fresh install of CFW and starting time over again RA will come up alive again.

Rebug Toolbox dumping "eid_root_key" to $USRDIR. Key have exactly 48B. And that is the file name what HDD Reader expecting. You must copy this file to USB or transfer information technology via FTP to PC.

What You did was copied application which dumping ERK... not the ERK.

im using rebug CFW and from what I tin can tell the RFG toolkit method of dumping EID is not working. I get a screen prompt asking me if I want to dump and restart? I get a triple beep from the console and it restarts but there is no file created that is 48b

I likewise don't sympathize why my PS3 recognizes 32gb NTFS thumb drives only not a 60GB Fat32 HDD on the usb port

  15. If the hard drive doesnt have its own power supply, and so it could be due to it not getting enough power from the USB port on the PS3.

it could too be partitioned wrong, to be compatible with PS3 it must be MBR, not GPT. On CFW it can be NTFS or FAT32 for games. GameOS will only recognize FAT32, simply some homebrew will recognize NTFS too.

in that location seems to be the same 2TB restriction on external drives. I simply reformatted a 1TB drive to fat32 and the new drive appears in multiman. I tin now drag and drop using multiman. its a long process but and so is getting a degree in computer sciences to understand all of this stuff. I volition do the first 100GB chunk of PS2 games and run into how information technology goes
  17. Yes, 2TB max for externals, 1.5TB max for internals.

    "dev_hdd0/game/RBGTLBX2/USRDIR/eid_root_key"

Be certain You lot are on Rebug CFW and doing this by Rebug Toolbox predistributed with Your CFW (I don't know if newest toolbox works with older Rebug (information technology should simply I never tested it)).

Also use proper awarding names because information technology is insulting to the authors... Such affair like "RFG toolkit" doesn't exist.

the predistributed toolbox did not have the option to dump the key, and then I looked for the latest release and installed it. it does not seem compatible.

I tried dragging and dropping the entire games file and letting information technology run all night, it is approximately 400Gb of data. it fabricated it through about 80GB and stalled and I woke up to an incomplete transfer. I am currently doing one by ane, I suspect it will take a couple weeks at this rate in between having to go to work.

i volition endeavor improve to call things past their proper names, there is just a lot of lingo i take to larn very quickly
